چکیده

The present work focuses the study of wall shear stress-based descriptors: time averaged wall shear stress (TAWSS), oscillating shear index (OSI) and relative residence time (RRT), of sketch geometries of the left coronary artery (LCA): one healthy case, one disease case with 30% obstruction in the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and other disease case with 50% obstruction in the LAD. Moreover, these parameters were studied for a patient-specific LCA based on computed tomography (CT) – a healthy case. Low TAWSS, high OSI and high RRT let know potential zones for atherosclerosis appearance and are in agreement in the same locations. In the sketch geometries, the probable zones of atherosclerosis appearance are in the bifurcation and before/after the obstruction. In the patient-specific LCA, atherosclerosis can appear not only in the bifurcation but also in protruding parts.

A novel framework for fluid/structure interaction in rapid subject-specific simulations of blood flow in coronary artery bifurcations.

BACKGROUND/AIM Practical difficulties, particularly long model development time, have limited the types and applicability of computational fluid dynamics simulations in numerical modeling of blood flow in serial manner. In these simulations, the most revealing flow parameters are the endothelial shear stress distribution and oscillatory shear index. The aim of this study was analyze their role ...

Computational fluid dynamic simulations of image-based stented coronary bifurcation models.

One of the relevant phenomenon associated with in-stent restenosis in coronary arteries is an altered haemodynamics in the stented region. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) offers the possibility to investigate the haemodynamics at a level of detail not always accessible within experimental techniques. CFD can quantify and correlate the local haemodynamics structures which might lead to in-ste...

Feasibility Study of Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation of Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography Based on Dual-Source Computed Tomography

BACKGROUND Adding functional features to morphological features offers a new method for non-invasive assessment of myocardial perfusion. This study aimed to explore technical routes of assessing the left coronary artery pressure gradient, wall shear stress distribution and blood flow velocity distribution, combining three-dimensional coronary model which was based on high resolution dual-source...

Hemodynamics in Coronary Arterial Tree of Serial Stenoses

Serial segmental narrowing frequently occurs in humans, which alters coronary hemodynamics and further affects atherosclerotic progression and plaque formation. The objective of this study was to understand the distribution of hemodynamic parameters in the epicardial left main coronary arterial (LMCA) tree with serial stenoses reconstructed from patient computer tomography angiography (CTA) ima...

The Impact of the Geometric Characteristics on the Hemodynamics in the Stenotic Coronary Artery

The alterations of the hemodynamics in the coronary arteries, which result from patient-specific geometric significances are complex. The effect of the stenosis on the blood flow alteration had been wildly reported, but the combinational contribution from geometric factors required a comprehensive investigation to provide patient-specific information for diagnosis and assisting in the decision ...
